LaBaron Hedgemon Ministries, Inc.

HISTORY

Beginning in 2005, the advancing of LHM, Inc. as a nonprofit faith based organization designed to promote and develop social and spiritual service programs that impacted youths and impoverished families within and throughout the East Mississippi and West Alabama region had been long since been under consideration. In December of 2006 and after much prayer and consideration, Elder Hedgemon was led by God to assemble four of his closest spiritual confidants (who would later become the founding board members) to begin the arduous, but necessary commission of formally establishing LHM, Inc. In January 2007, LaBaron Hedgemon Ministries incorporated as a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) ministry.

On February 1, 2007, the ministry served as host to its first event, A Night of Unity 07! God established the inimitable grace upon LHM, Inc. when over 700 people from various denominations and ethnicities worshipped together as souls were added to the Kingdom. By the end of the first year, LHM, Inc. had successfully hosted several events; Community Celebration (Tuscaloosa, Alabama), The Empowerment Gathering, and LHM Adopt-3. In 2010, because of LHM, Inc.’s resolute commitment to being a community-oriented ministry dedicated to educational, social, and spiritual accountability in the Meridian community, Elder Hedgemon was appointed as Chaplain to the Meridian Public School District, Mississippi’s 6th largest school district. Since this appointment, LHM, Inc. has hosted the annual Wildcat Sunday, a “spiritual pep rally” inclusive of athletes from all sports (football, basketball, and baseball) and their respective coaches and support staff and cheerleaders. The event is conducted at Freedom Rock Christian Fellowship Church and asserts as the single largest off-campus school-related event in Lauderdale County with over 400 people in attendance. The event provides spiritual encouragement and empowerment, meet-and-greet fellowship, and dinner. Additionally, LHM, Inc. has adopted the three middle schools within the school district, Magnolia Middle School, Carver Middle School, and Northwest Middle School, where it provides throughout the school year mentorship programs such as Passport to Manhood (co-sponsored by the East Mississippi Boys & Girls Club) and Men of Action general assembly programs for male youth as well as providing schools supplies to nearly 200 underprivileged but deserving students at the beginning of each academic school year.
